Work Experience
We offer work experience to young people attending schools and colleges in the areas where we work. This gives them a taste of the differing roles within our business including the core trades. We also use the work experience as part of our drive to attract more young women into the trades and to break down barriers that prevent some sectors of society from seeing construction as a suitable career choice.
Inductions
All employees must progress through our mandatory induction process which includes our culture, quality standards and procedures. Topics covered include safety, health & environmental compliance & certification, IT and mobile working solutions, equality & diversity, safeguarding, and our expectations on quality and behaviours. Each induction also covers contract specific requirements and our shared client objectives.

Meeting our responsibilities
We all have a responsibility for improving the environmental future of the planet. AJS is committed to working with our employees, clients and supply chain to deliver on this. We examine every function within the business to seek improvements in how we do things that will help reduce the environmental impact on the planet.
CARBON NEUTRAL
We are committed to being carbon neutral and are a long way towards achieving this without the need for carbon offsetting. In doing so we are working with clients to deliver the most energy efficient installations and retrofits available.
Where possible we purchase materials that have been assembled in the UK to minimise miles travelled. We logistically schedule our PPM programmes to cut travel times and reduce vehicle usage.
We have fitted electric vehicle charging facilities at our offices and are in the process of moving to an all-electric fleet of vans once the charging network has expanded to meet our transport requirements.
Waste reduction and recycling
AJS has developed a waste management plan which has helped divert more than 99% of our site waste from landfill through measures which include:
Segregating waste materials to maximise opportunities for recycling.
Purchasing materials that are 100% recyclable with minimum packaging.
Reusing materials from old installations to maintain older client systems with parts that are no longer being made.
Refurbishing power tools and batteries to extend their life.
Apprenticeship Recruitment
Many of our employees have served their apprenticeship with AJS and some have gone on to reach director level within the business. We reward hard work and promote from within which is demonstrated through the loyalty of our team.
We recognise that to build for the future there is a necessity to train and develop our people from within. For this reason we offer modern apprenticeships across the trades we deliver and in central support roles. Our experienced team members are committed to supporting and mentoring our younger personnel to help them develop into the best they can be.
